VLAN’s and routing

I was just reading up on L2 switches and read that Layer2 cannot do inter-vlan routing, and that all your traffic between VLAN’s must go to your router. If I want inter-vlan routing, I need a Layer3 switch.

I’m wondering what type of slowness this could cause. I’m going to be running some tests on my network and see if I have everything configured correctly, and if not, perhaps look at purchasing an L3 switch.

Fun stuff!
